October 2007

“Say cheese”! Those two words best describe the most interesting aspect of September. I was the subject of an all-day photo shoot for a book called Out of the Dark, part of the Author at Work series published by Richard C. Owens Publishers.

The session was wild. It involved changing settings and clothing from one set of photos to the next. I haven’t seen the photos yet. I’m holding my breath! I can tell you I worked like a mad woman to get my home in shape for this shoot. You have no idea! (Think cleaning curtains, window-washing, ugh! Trust me: my office has never been neater in its entire existence.) I just hope my fans appreciate all the effort.

But that was September. With it, came some bad news: the hardcover edition of Jazmin’s Notebook went out of print. Thankfully, the paperback is still available. On the good news front, Thanks a Million went back to press. Yay! Lastly, the audio version of The Road to Paris was released. Hopefully, there'll be more where that came from!

Now we’ve arrived at the single most perfect month of the calendar year. October! Of course, my opinion is somewhat subjective, October being the month of my birth. But, hey, what’s not to love? Cool breezes, sweet cider on the wind, trees changing color—well, not in California. But I grew up on the east coast and, if I close my eyes, I can still see those fire-reds, rich oranges, gleaming golds. Not that I’ll have to leave all that up to memory. Later this month, I’m off to North Carolina and then to Rhode Island for conferences. Between the two locales, I’m bound to spot a tree or two in fall’s full glory. Until then, I’ll keep busy preparing items for a fine arts fair, and tossing around ideas for my works-in-progress.

Never a dull moment!

Like strands of a spider web,
each strand silvery, but weak
each may glisten in the light but
only when they’re joined
in some intricate pattern
do you see the shape
only then do they gather
strength and substance
their beauty less fragile than before.
