When Gorilla Goes Walking

Greetings, cat lovers! My book about a feisty feline hit store shelves this month. Yay! It’s called When Gorilla Goes Walking.

Want a tidbit? My extraordinary kitty was originally called Godzilla. But, it turns out Warner Brothers owns the name, and no one else can use it. Sigh … So, I had to come up with another moniker that would reflect the fierce nature of my little kitty. I hope I chose well!

Speaking of choices, for several months I’ve been working on a manuscript for the Author at Work series published by Richard Owens Publisher. The book is a combination of autobiography and personal writing craft how-tos. I can tell you the single most difficult aspect of this book for me has been choosing photographs to include. Or perhaps I should say finding photos to include.

One of the downsides of growing up in and out of foster homes, and constantly changing residences, is the paucity of photographs. Few were taken, and many of those that were got lost along the way. Can you say bummer? Guess I’ll just have to fill in with new, fun photos from more recent years.

Good news: Dark Sons is out in paperback! Haven’t read it yet? No more excuses. It’s a really good novel. Honest! It won a Coretta Scott King Honor and was chosen as an NCTE Notable Book. So there!

Well, gotta run.

I’ve got two new manuscripts in the works.

More later.

The Sharecropper

Proud,
Grandfather grips my hand
as we gaze on land
now his.
The apple tree
he planted
thanks him with
ample shade.
